If you’re in the market for an entry-level electric motorcycle, you’ll end up looking at a variety of commuter-type nakeds. But what about sport bike fanatics? Don’t you deserve something striking to start your EV journey? Well, you do, and Chinese giant QJ Motor has whipped up an EV that fits the bill well. Called the OAO Pro (alternatively RX), it promises to be a perfect entry-level sport bike which makes it a serious problem for the upcoming electric Kawasaki Ninja.

One look at the OAO, and it’ll charm you with its proper sport bike-like design. The fascia is sleek, comprising twin LED headlights and an aerodynamic windscreen. This is flanked by muscular fairings that house LED turn signals up front. The latter end keeps the trend going, thanks to edgy panels and an LED tail lamp.

All this is topped by likable attention to detail. You get a swingarm-mounted plate holder (which creates a tidy tushy), tan brown saddles, and unique diamond-cut alloy wheels. Another cool touch is the company logo on the fairing. It actually opens to reveal the charging port.

What about features, you ask? Well, the Chinese bikemaker has kept things simple for a change. The list comprises a blue backlit LCD instrument cluster (with just the basic information), a USB port, and dual-channel ABS. There’s also a storage space where the fuel tank ‌is on ICE bikes that can gulp a helmet (probably a half-face one).

The QJ Motor OAO Pro Promises 105 Miles Of Range

Coming to numbers, the OAO Pro employs a 10kW (~14 horsepower; peak) mid-mounted electric motor. When maxed out, you’ll manage a top speed of just over 60 mph, making this strictly a commuter. Now, these figures might not be impressive, but it’s worth noting the Pro has a four-speed transmission. So while you won’t go too fast, you’ll at least have an authentic motorcycle experience (to an extent).

The motor draws juice from a near-6.5 kWh battery pack, good enough for 105 miles of range. Once you run out, you’ll need four hours to reach back to 100 percent charge via the supplied charger. The Chinese bikemaker hasn’t revealed whether battery-swapping tech or fast charging is available, though.

Lastly, the OAO is suspended on upside-down forks and a monoshock. Both ends feature 17-inch alloy wheels that house single disc brakes. The entire package weighs 361 pounds, which, coupled with the 30.7-inch saddle height, should make it quite accessible.

It could. You see, QJ Motor is slowly but steadily expanding operations in America. And once it has its ICE offerings here, the electric OAO will probably be next. Expect it to be competitively priced, much lower than the soon-to-arrive e-Ninja. For reference, the OAO costs around $4,000 in China.
