Italy is home to some of the finest automobile companies. Ferrari, Lamborghini, Ducati, Aprilia, and MV Agusta all hail from here, and now, a new startup wants to join the elusive club as well. Called Italian Volt, the company wants to prove its mettle in the up-and-coming electric mobility segment, with its Lacama 2.0 electric motorcycle. It boasts superbike-like performance, electronics, and componentry–all of which make the LiveWire One look boring. Here are the details.

Diving right in, the Lacama employs an Axial flux PMSM motor that produces 150 horsepower and 169 pound-feet. This will take you to 60mph in just 3.5 seconds, followed by an impressive top speed of 143mph. And when you’re going full gas, you’ll appreciate the safety net of modern rider aids. The list includes a six-axis IMU, wheelie control, traction control, cornering ABS, and four ride modes (Rocket!, Sport, Eco, Wet). All these are accessible via a 4.3-inch TFT instrument cluster.

On the battery front, Italian Volt has equipped its EV with a Tazzari battery system, complete with a bespoke management system and Samsung NCA cells. Though the capacity remains unknown, the company claims a maximum urban range of 160 miles. That’s 24 miles more than the LiveWire One’s claimed range and since this has a higher top speed, we expect its freeway range to be higher as well. For reference, LiveWire claims just 70 miles of highway range for its EV.

We all know just how much Italian automakers love bling and the Lacama 2.0 only cements the notion. The motorcycle hides a bespoke monocoque chassis under the skin, suspended on 43 mm Ohlins upside-down forks and an Ohlins monoshock. Both ends are adjustable and come paired with 17-inch spoke wheels. The latter will come shod with Pirelli Rosso III rubber, although the test mules have dual-purpose rubber. This hints at another variant of the Lacama, probably an electric scrambler.

Lastly, as for design, the Lacama takes the popular neo-retro design approach. A round headlight sits up top, flanked by a chunky mask and sporty fender. The tail end is quite sleek in contrast. Interestingly, the bikemaker claims the design is “modular”, meaning future customers can swap panels, add/delete bits, and choose between seat types. 22 color options will also be given for further personalization.

If you’re an avid reader of TopSpeed.com (thank you!), you’d notice we’ve skipped out on some important information like charge time, seat height, and weight. That’s because the Italian Volt will reveal the full details of the Lacama at the 2023 EICMA, including its price. There is no word whether the Lacama will set foot in America, however. Considering Italian Volt is a startup, we might have to stick with the LiveWire for a while.
