Not long ago, BMW announced it’s returning 2024 models in America. But it skipped out the F 850 GS, hinting a new model was on the horizon. Now, the bikemaker has dropped a sneaky and surprise teaser of an upcoming ADV, which looks like the future 850 GS replacement. It’s called the F 900 GS and here's what you need to know.

As you’d expect, it doesn’t reveal much about the motorcycle. But there are plenty of noteworthy elements in the subtle teaser. The ‘#SpiritOfGS’ title confirms the new model will be part of the iconic BMW adventure bike family, backed by the off-road shot of the motorcycle. Zooming in gives away the knobby tires and spoke wheels, along with other ADV elements like a tall windscreen, crash protection, and handguards.

The biggest highlight, meanwhile, is the bike’s name. Close in on the BMW logo, and you can clearly see the letters ‘F900’ beside it. This not only confirms what the motorcycle will be called but also hints the motorcycle will be a replacement for the current F 850 GS. To jog your memory, the middleweight ADV first debuted in 2017 and has had no major updates since then.

The 2024 BMW F 900 GS Might Feature An 895cc Twin-Cylinder Engine

BMW already has the F 900 XR and F 900 R on sale worldwide. These employ an up-sized version of the F 850 GS’ 853cc mill, and the same is expected to serve duty on the new F 900 GS. It displaces 895 cubic centimeters to produce 99 horsepower and 68 pound-feet–nine and five more than the existing F 850, respectively. The extra power would also give the F 900 GS a better fighting chance against its rivals like the 104-HP KTM 890 Adventure. Another benefit is the 895cc mill abides by Euro 5+ norms, so the new GS wouldn't need an update for at least two more years.

Engine aside, the teaser image confirms a visual overhaul. Gone is the R 1250 GS-inspired rectangular fascia, and in comes a new F 900 R-like LED headlight. This is topped by new bodywork (fairings and fenders) which don’t appear as edgy as the 850. The front beak appears missing here too. Together, all of it would make the F 900 GS look like a bigger G 310 GS, rather than a mini version of BMW’s soon-to-arrive R 1300 GS.

BMW will take the wraps off the F 900 GS on September 7, 2023. We expect a F 900 GS Adventure variant to be part of the reveal too, along with a de-tuned F 800 GS and F 800 GS Adventure. After all, the F 850 GS also has an adventure variant, while the F 750 GS serves as its de-tuned version. Expect the F 900 GS and F 800 GS to start from about $13,500 and $11,000, respectively.
