In a market flooded with options, the Rivian R1T stands out as a game-changer in the world of electric trucks. With its astonishing 835 horsepower, the R1T can sprint from 0 to 60 mph in a mere 3.0 seconds, leaving even high-performance sports cars in the dust. But it's not just about speed; this electric powerhouse can also tow up to 11,000 pounds, all while maintaining near silence.

Inside, the R1T offers an upper-class outdoorsy interior that combines a massive 16.0-inch touchscreen with finely stitched leather seats, giving you a taste of luxury amidst its rugged capabilities. In the world of electric pickups, the R1T faces competition from the Ford F-150 Lightning, Chevrolet Silverado EV, and GMC Hummer EV SUT, but none quite match its unique features.

Additionally, a Drive Cam feature allows you to record your entire journey, serving as a replacement for an active dashcam. The R1T is offered in two all-wheel-drive configurations: Dual-Motor and Quad-Motor. With an optional Quad-Motor setup, the latter delivers a staggering 835 horsepower, making it the fastest pickup truck ever tested. You can also expect three battery packs with varying ranges: Standard (270 miles), Large (352 miles), and Max (up to 400 miles). And that's only the tip of the iceberg. R1T is coming to dominate the EV landscape, even with heightened competition.

The Rivian R1T Is A Game Changer

  • Rivian R1T boasts a towing capacity of 11,000 pounds.
  • Has an EPA estimated rating of 70 MPGe combined.

With its successful first run of the Rivian R1T, the brand has decided to up the ante in 2024. Even when comparing the 2023 models of this super truck to other electric competition, Rivian does a better job in nearly all aspects. For example, Rivian boasts a towing capacity of 11,000 pounds and a payload capacity of 1760 pounds. However, towing can significantly impact the battery's range, so opting for the largest battery pack is advisable for those planning to maximize this capability.

Most electric trucks struggle with towing capacity and battery range, as the two have become dependent on one another in many EV trucks, so with Rivian, that becomes less of an everyday worry. The R1T also boasts an EPA rating of 74 MPGe city, 66 MPGe highway, and 70 MPGe combined. Knowing these things can make shopping for your all-new Rivian R1T easier and set up a comparison to other electric trucks and SUVs.

After all, Rivian has dedicated years of time, money, and labor to 'perfecting' its vision, which is apparent when seeing, driving, and experiencing the R1T lineup. The existing 2023 R1T is $70,000+, which, to many, has been the only drawback of purchasing one. Reports have been circulating of a slight price reduction for 2024, although this is unconfirmed. We'll need to wait and see what that final price tag looks like next year.

The 2024 Rivian R1T Will Be Offered With Three Battery Options

Interestingly enough, the 2024 R1T is slated to have three battery pack options:

  • Standard - 270 miles
  • Large - 352 miles
  • Max - 400 miles

The Standard pack is said to be good for 270 miles per charge, while the Large and Max battery packs boast driving ranges of up to 352 and 400 miles. If you were to upgrade from the base model (which will have a standard battery), you could spend nearly $80,000 if the 2024 release is priced anywhere near 2023. However, that may be worth it for such a high-performance vehicle, especially if you want to use it off-road or for work. Let's face it: Nobody wants an EV that goes under 300 miles. That doesn't give us enough time on the open road enjoying our vehicles.

Luckily, with the 2024 rollout, we will see these three battery pack options, which give people an excellent selection of ranges and MSRPs for their R1T.

So, you can see here the 2023 and 2024 R1Ts are impressive. The newer release will offer more battery choices, with customers being able to choose a truck that goes up to 400 miles. The price point may also be higher (or lower) with this lineup; we just don't know yet. Ideally, Rivian will cut down on base prices to entice drivers to come to check these out, but with inflation, nothing is for sure.

As Rivian ramps up sales, production, marketing efforts, and brand awareness, it's worth applauding the brand for what it's done in the EV sector. R1T has been met with incredibly positive feedback and sales figures for Rivian, with many of its customers loving their electric trucks' look, feel, and performance. As of 2022, reports show Rivian delivered 21,252 vehicles to its customers, while in 2023, this figure jumped to 55,400 vehicles by the end of this year (Q4). Rivian also reported a backlog of 114,932 pre-orders for its electric vehicles at the end of 2022.

With those types of percentage jumps, we'd assume Rivian is in for a record-breaking 2024. After all, with new models dropping like hotcakes, the EV maker has its eyes on Tesla and others dominating this space. Although the Rivian brand is relatively new and unknown, it has done a spectacular job branding and developing high-performance vehicles for people to drive.

It's not every day we have an electric car company come into the scene with a bang, and Rivian could be proving to be a massive player in the North American market come 2030. For now, the R1T will continue to dominate Rivian's sales.

Although the Rivian R1T won't likely have a base MSRP of less than $70,000, let's focus on why this may be the case. After all, the R1T is considered a premium, even luxury, vehicle in the truck market, boasting better range, battery configuration, interior/exterior specs, and speed than the competition. Notably, inside your R1T, there will be:

  • Leather seats/interior areas
  • Wood accents throughout the cabin
  • Advanced infotainment (16-inch touchscreen display)

Furthermore, Rivian's versatile storage options and expandable crossbar system make it a practical choice for outdoor enthusiasts. This truck is meant to see the open road, on or off the beaten path, which makes it a nice option for outdoorsy consumers. Up to this point, we don't have many EV off-roaders, which could be a gap Rivian hopes to fill.

Tesla's Cybertruck will be steep competition with the R1T, but we aren't sure people will choose one over the other before a few months of hype builds upon their releases. Rivian feels more tailored to the everyday customer, while Tesla's idea of a pickup truck is futuristic, explorative, and experimental. That will likely bring a vastly different group to Cybertruck, leaving Rivian with everyone else. This electric truck is paving the way for more advancements, and we're excited.
