As the future comes faster each day, modern cars are going electric in more ways than one. It's not just the performance, power specs, and range you must look at. Even the tech inside the cabin is getting better and better. To laymen, better tech means more giant touchscreens, and they are right to a large extent. Having a full LED display at your fingertips is exciting, but how big will these displays be?

From the looks of the current trends, the touchscreens and infotainment centers within vehicles will continue to grow, but not all the experts in the industry agree that the screens will continue to increase in size. BMW CEO Oliver Zipse has stated that within 10 years, the huge screens will be back under control. Maybe because people will realize they are not needed, or the powers that be will understand that they are not safe. Either way, the executives at BMW feel strongly that they will be a thing of the past.

We can't help but compare them to the digital touchpads we use at home - the bigger, the better. Let's take a look at a list of cars that boast LED displays and see how big they are:

Updated August 25, 2023: Car technology is constantly changing, so instead of letting this list get buried with other outdated pieces, we have decided to update and refresh it. That means you get some of the most up-to-date information, along with the original data that was published from the start. It keeps you informed while keeping this list updated and as current as possible, so keep checking in for more updates.

The lower trim levels of the Toyota Prius Prime only offer a small eight-inch touchscreen, but once you get into the higher trim levels, the 12.3-inch version becomes an option. The top trim level, the Prius Prime XSE Premium, gets the big screen as standard, along with a JBL audio system. All trim levels can hook up to either Apple or Droid mobile devices, and six USB-C ports to ensure constant connectivity whenever needed.

Other upgrades for the new generation of the Toyota Prius Prime include improvements to the engine, giving the compact car up to 100 more horses to play with. The exterior looks went from giving the overall impression of being an environment-saving car to a sports touring car (while still being better for the planet.) Best of all, it has all the tech you could ever expect from a modern vehicle, including traffic jam assist, parking assist, panoramic view, digital key capability, and so much more.

The Mercedes S-Class may not have the monster theatre screen that drops down like the EQS, but when the series was designed, the main focal point on the car's interior was the screens. In this case, "the more, the merrier" was the building block of the dash, rather than "the bigger, the better." You will quickly see what is meant when you climb into the cokpit of any Mercedes S-Class because right off you will see the main center screen, a decently sized 12.3 inches. To complement that, if you glance at the dash, you will see a matching-sized gauge cluster of 12.3 inches, which works in connection with the central touchscreen, giving the entire image a remarkable 3-D effect.

But of course, that is not the main reason anyone buys a Mercedes of any class, and the C-Class is no exception. The interior is as luxurious and comfortable as expected. It is lined with leather and exotic woods, stitched thousands of times to give it long-lasting life and great visual appeal. The software within the car has settings for seven different drivers, with over 800 settings to personalize and safety technology at the top of its class to help ensure the safety of all the occupants all the time.

For 2023, you can only get the Lexus RX 350 SUV as a two-row, five-seat vehicle, but with the right options, it will have the 14-inch touchscreen rather than the smaller 9.8-inch screen that is standard. The screen is directly in the middle of the front dash but slightly angled toward the driver to give a clearer view. The Lexus software interface processes the data and can connect to either Apple or Droid devices. Plus, like many cars today, it offers a heads-up display to help drivers keep their eyes on the road to improve safety.

The Lexus RX350 for 2024 can be ordered with four different drive trains, numerous trim levels to suit your needs, and it can even be had in Hybrid form. The eight-speed automatic transmission paired with front-wheel drive is standard, but you can opt for the more grip that can be had with the all-wheel drive version. The Hybrid models do not seem to give an extra performance boost compared to the ICE models, but they still give you the benefits of having a plug-in Hybrid.

Since Tesla is one of the leading nameplates in the EV movement, or at least they were at one time, you might think they would have the most extravagant touchscreen infotainment system on the market. However, that would be a wrong assumption because even though they are on this list three times, it is not the biggest on the market. But it is still very high-tech, so much so that for some drivers, there are simply too many components and features hidden within the controls of the touchscreen for them to be able to find, let alone use.

Hopefully, it will get better over time as Tesla claims. However, if not, the muscle car acceleration and sports car handling will still be enough for most buyers to continue dishing money out for it. After all, mobile devices are so high-tech now that they can offer almost any type of driving aid you might need added to your trip, such as mapping and navigation or logging stops and mileage. There is an app for everything, after all, so enjoy the act of driving and let the passengers deal with everything else.

When the Ford Mustang Mach-E first came out, the people looking for a high-performance SUV were in awe; the classic Mustang lovers were sick to their stomachs, and the rest of the world held their breath to see what would happen. What did happen is that Ford hit another home run, filling the need for an SUV that was not a basic SUV and, to top it off, one that was all electric and kicked out no harmful carbon emissions. The infotainment center in the Mach-E is only 15.5 inches for now, but do not be too surprised if it gets bigger in the near future.

The Ford Mustang Mach-E can come in a number of configurations and trim levels depending on what you want the SUV set up to do. The Sport Edition will be the way to go if you are more concerned about performance. Otherwise, the standard rear-wheel drive with one electric motor and a long-range battery may suffice. Whatever works for you is specific to your needs, but what matters is that the Mach-E is the beginning of the new age of muscle cars, so it will just continue to get better.

Porsche has gone for a pretty basic layout - a fixed menu bar on the left and a tab bar on the top. This simple approach is easy to learn and highly adaptable. The menus are easy to navigate, even for those unfamiliar with high-tech stuff. The screens are a bit short and stretch far across the dash - this will take a bit of getting used to, but overall, they are pretty handy for the driver. The great thing for everyone is that Porsche has made the screen 16.8 inches in the Taycan to make it easier to see.

The Porsche Taycan is another model that is well known in every circle, especially the sports car enthusiasts who love the thrill of the windy road. The Taycan is an all-electric car that can come in three very distinct body shapes, each offering eye appeal all to its own. With each style you get different motor and battery options, but once you get into the Turbo and Turbo S models, the only option will be the AWD version because you will need the extra grip to keep the car on the road.

Tesla has been at the forefront of the electric car movement since the start, and even though others have joined the EV transformation, Tesla is still the name everyone knows. As you can see from the performance numbers, the base and middle-level Tesla Model X is about average for its class, with a little better range than most. But, if you want a little extra torque and a lot more power, 1,020 horses to be exact, you can always opt for the Model X Plaid, which is designed to give you the thrill of a lifetime.

8 Tesla Model S

Even though the Tesla Model S has the same basic touchscreen system as the Model X, it is a luxury sedan all its own. The 17-inch infotainment screen is the first thing you see when climbing behind the wheel, and for good reason because it controls nearly everything within the car. As with the other Tesla models on the market, the controls can be a little tricky to get used to, and if you check around, you will see that owners have lodged complaints that the controls rely too heavily upon the touchscreen for their liking.

This may mean that the era of enormous touchscreens may be slowly coming to a halt, with things returning to a more manageable and safe size. But for now, the large screen, luxurious interior, sporty exterior, and 2.4 seconds launch from 0 to 60 MPH will continue to please the majority of buyers. At the moment, it all boils down to performance, and Tesla has plenty of that, especially when you climb behind the wheel of the Telsa Model S Plaid.

7 Audi A8

Size of touchscreen: 18.7 inches

Saying that the Audi A8 has an 18.7-inch touchscreen may be slightly misleading unless you look at it from an all-around standpoint. That means that when you combine the upper touchscreen, 10.1 inches, and the lower touchscreen, 8.6 inches, you get an integrated screen of 18.7 inches. Not to mention the 12.3-inch Virtual Cockpit cluster that makes up the gauges, which Audi has become quite known for. Overall, the Audi has some exceptional screen displays, as well as the innovative technology to go along with it.

Since the company has put so much time into making the A8 an upper-class luxury model, the engineers decided to spend some extra time and money lining the car with additional sound-deadening materials. This not only creates a smoother ride for the occupants of the vehicle, but it ensures that the noises of the road stay on the street, leaving the inside of the car for the sounds that should be there, such as the story of your kindergartener getting their first gold star in vocabulary.

It should come as no surprise that the BMW i7 comes with a touchscreen that matches its fine quality. However, this entry is in this list in a slightly unconventional way. It's not the touchscreen on the dash we're talking about, but the 'Theater Screen' at the rear, which is a massive 31.3-inch touchscreen. It gives you complete control over all of the car's awesome features, like climate control, an excellent sound system, and high-quality electric options - from headlights to seat warmers. As you would expect, the BMW i7 is a large luxury sedan, so if you are looking for a vehicle with sports car handling you may be slightly disappointed, even though the Beemer still handles exceptionally well for its size. To top all that luxury off, the technology found within the cockpit is second to none, so even though the asking price for a new model is over $100,000, it is well worth the sticker price because of what the car offers, not just because of the BMW nameplate itself.

5 Lucid Air

Unlike many other modern models, the Lucid Air has held back a bit with its LED display, choosing to go with common sense and proper functionality instead of Star Trek-style looks that cover your dashboard. Its large 34.0-inch display is three separate panels broken up by categories and grouped by similar controls. The smallest panel on the left handles critical functions like the headlights, locks, and windshield wipers. The center main display takes information like your speed and charge level. The right display above the dashboard's center is your main infotainment screen - it handles all your media, communication, and navigation needs.

The Lucid Air may arguably be one of the most impressive EVs on this list, which is truly a one-of-a-kind work of art. The Lucid Air, in its most impressive form, can accelerate from 0 to 60 in under 2 seconds, and then it can cruise down the road for almost 400 miles before ever needing to be recharged. If that is not impressive enough for you, check out the top speed of 170 MPH, which is only stopped at that point because the manufacturer has placed a governor on the car to limit it to that.

The biggest draw for the Lincoln is that it comes with CoPilot 360 and Ford's latest version of Sync-4, which allows you to hook up any type of mobile device, regardless of Apple or Droid operating system.
