In 2018 Energica Motor Company was selected as the unique supplier by Dorna for the MotoE World Cup. Its first production model, the Ego super bike, served as the basis for the race bike Ego Corsa. Energica’s race bike was the spec machine for the one-make electric bike racing for the four-year period 2019-2022 of the FIM Enel MotoE Cup. It had the opportunity to be tested on the best riders racing the Ego Corsa in extreme conditions and testing all the technology that was then introduced on the road-going version Ego sport bike. All the experiences from the Ego Corsa racing modifications and equipment that made the race bike a true masterpiece are implemented into the Ego+ RS to offer the same level of power and rideability.

Energica has provided cutting-edge technology and features to the Ego, and the RS version gets advanced racing tech to further improve the performance. Their patented Vehicle Control Unit (VCU) which monitors and manages the bike’s batteries and electronics is housed in a weathertight, two-piece aluminum casting and sits atop the battery back. The bike comes with four ride modes: Urban, Eco, Rain, Sport, and four regenerative maps to adjust depending on the rider's braking needs.

The bike also comes with the option for a reverse gear, with a maximum speed in reverse of 1.74 mph. The mode is intended for easy parking that might otherwise be a challenge, especially for shorter riders struggling to back up. Additionally, the Ego+ RS comes with a six-level traction control and a sophisticated cruise control system.

Their unique Combined Charging System (CCS) offers three charging options: single-phase AC (120-volt household outlet), three-phase AC (240-volt with optional installation), and DC high-speed (fast charging). Using the DC fast charge mode four option via the under-seat plug-in, the Ego+ RS's battery pack can reach 80 percent of its maximum state of charge in 40 minutes. The onboard 3.3 kW charger complies with SAE J1772 and IEC 62196-2 standards and has a pilot signal for the charging station interface.

The sport fairing of the Ego+ RS was designed directly from the Ego Corsa of the MotoE championship, giving it an aerodynamic advantage as well as stunning looks. The razor-sharp design provides an aggressive riding position thanks to lower handlebars and foot pegs. It has a steel tubular trellis frame with a cast aluminum swingarm to keep the weight down. The RS variant receives increased performance modifications for faster acceleration and higher top speed; to manage the added power, the final drive chain has been strengthened. Additionally, the updated motor is lighter, reducing the kerb weight to 573 pounds. It also has a lower center of gravity, which improves handling.
