Just a few days back, CFMoto took the wraps off the 450CL-C, its first cruiser motorcycle. And now, it’s time for yet another first for the Chinese brand because it unveiled two new electric motocross motorcycles. Called CX-2E and CX5E, these mark the company’s first effort in the dirt bike as well as the electric motocross segment, with eyes set on Honda and Oset (owned by Triumph).

CFMoto’s first motocrossers target the beginner segment. Accordingly, the CX-2E and CX-5E cater to kids and youngsters, respectively. Lasering on the former, the 2E is suited for children aged from four to seven. It rolls on 10-inch spoke wheels (to keep the ride height accessible), attached to a double cradle steel tube chassis. You…err your kids get telescopic forks (2.8-inch travel) and a monoshock (2.6-inch travel) for suspension duties, while single-petal rotors help shed speed.

Under the skin, there’s a 1.2kW electric motor that works in tandem with a proprietary controller. The motor draws juice from a 48 V 24 Ah (1.1 kWh) battery pack, good enough for 37 miles of range. This capacity is class-leading, compared to the Honda CRF-E2 or the Oset 16.0 Racing. And once out of juice, you can simply remove the battery and swap in a new one.

Besides this, CFMoto has equipped the 2E with an LCD instrument cluster. It gives access to three stages of acceleration, power, and battery usage, so your child can become a better rider step-by-step with safety. The first mode limits the top speed to 10mph, the second allows 16mph, and the third enables 22mph. All this while, the entire package weighs just 108 pounds.

As the name suggests, the CX-5E is a bigger version of the 2E. The chassis is identical here, but bigger, and paired with 14/12-inch wheels (F/R). The telescopic forks and monoshock also have marginally more travel - 4.1 inches up top and 3.93 inches out back - than the 2E. Same goes for the performance. The 5E employs a 1.5kW electric motor that enables a top speed of 28mph in Mode 3. Mode 1 and 2 bring it down to 15 and 22mph, respectively.

What remains the same as the 2E is the overall aesthetic, the LCD, and the battery pack. So you continue to get the same 37 miles of range, along with similar ergonomics as the smaller CX. Interestingly, CFMoto has also left the disc brake sizes as is, even though the 5E is 15 pounds heavier.

The CFMoto CX-2E And CX-5E Should Reach America In 2024

So what’s the price? Well, that isn’t out yet because CFMoto has announced these EVs in select markets for now. However, since these were patented in Europe, the company clearly has global intentions for these, which should include America. That’s why we expect CFMoto USA to launch these here next year. The price point will surely be under the KTM SX E-3 and SX E-5.
